My Girl

I wanted to let you all know that Lucy passed away Tuesday morning. We went above and beyond, doing everything for her we could and she was such a tough, good girl and went through so much. As you may know, she had bladder cancer, diagnosed in late January but the tumor probably started growing about a year ago. I love her so much and I told her that that will never stop although now I miss her greatly.
Taken 2/3/13
Thank you for being our friends and for caring about her. I regretted not being able to blog these past few months but between work and caring for her, I just had no time.

I have such an emptiness now. My best friend is gone. I'm thankful for the time I had with her, my faith, my hubby, Simba and Annie.

Happy Tuesday and Flying Meat

Hi Friends,
I hope you're enjoying your Tuesday. I wanted to see if you've heard of Flying Meat. Here's the scenario: You're fast asleep and meat--deli ham or turkey are my favorites--flies into your bed. Without even a second's hesitation, you wake up from your sleep, eat it and go back to sleep, all in one fell swoop. It makes the humans laugh but it makes me very, very happy. I have my problems but I still enjoy food and being with Mama and Papa.

p.s. Thank you for all your comments the other day. Mama and I appreciate you all so very much!

Lucy

I want to let you know what's been going on with Lucy. As you can see from the picture, Lucy had her cast removed. Unfortunately, that's the only good news I have (although her paw seems to be very sore and tender and she won't walk on it). We've been having a terrible time for over a month with what we thought were urinary tract infections. She was in and out of the litter box constantly with just small amounts of urine or none at all. She had an ultrasound done on her bladder last Friday and there is a fairly large tumor right at the entry. Feline bladder cancer is very rare and surgery isn't an option due to the location and size. Also, apparently, surgery doesn't give good outcomes for kitties with bladder cancer. She is on some heavy-duty medicine that, if she doesn't experience any side effects, can possibly give her four to six months of quality life. Today was her second dose. Right now, I'm living in fear of the side effects (GI bleeding, kidney failure an seizures to name a few). This medicine can be effective, but sadly it can cause a lot of problems in cats. However, it's all we've got.

I'm vacillating between denial and sadness. She's been my sweet girl for over 16 years and I love her deeply. Right now, she's eating like a champ, purring and responding to us. We're taking it one day at a time. I hesitated on sharing bad news but I know Lucy's friends would want to know. Two weeks ago, Simba got very sick due to his chronic renal failure. He had to stay at the vet's for five days on IV fluids. He's doing great now. We just have to give him fluids every other day instead of twice weekly.

Well, we appreciate all of you. I haven't told anyone else because frankly, although I love my friends and family, they don't really understand loving pets this much and giving medical care. I can't bear to hear anything unfeeling. Thanks for listening.

Peace, Love and Bobby Sherman

Mama is dating herself with that title, but do you see my heart with the peace sign?  Mama says I’m now a peace-loving hippie.

We hope you’ve had a good week and have some fun plans for the weekend. My plans are to hang loose (channeling my inner hippie). Mama and Papa are running errands and hanging out. It’s supposed to rain today.

We want to thank our lovely friends at Twinkletoes (Oui Oui, Carl, Julie, Mica Minnie Moo and the Mom) for The Next Big Thing award. You guys are so sweet to think of us!

Toodles,
Lucy

Peace

Easy Sunday

I love getting my easy on. I have my heating pad under the wooly pad. It's wonderful.

Do you like my shamrock?

Saturday Stuff

I went to the doctor again yesterday. I go every Friday because they have to check my cast and re-do the bandage.
I'm waiting for the doctor to come in. Sorry about the worse-than-usual picture quality.

I've been having a lot of litterbox problems. I'll go in the box over and over again and cry. I do this all throughout the day and night. It turns out I'm full of it...poop, that is. They asked Mama to leave me there for a few hours because they needed to do lots of things to me. I had to have (gasp) an enema. I also have another urinary tract infection. I now have more pills than you can shake a paw at. I have my regular hyper-t and blood pressure pills and now have antibiotics, poop pills and pain medication. It's not easy being an older lady.
Today, it's been six weeks exactly since I got the cast. They took an x-ray of my paw and it's still not completely healed. Mama wants to celebrate when the cast comes off. I'm hoping for a cast removal party with turkey, ham and marshmallows.

Happy weekend!

Happy 2013!

Happy New Year!

We had a quiet evening last night. Mama was in bed way before midnight and so was I. Today we're watching the Rose Parade (an annual parade in Southern California that has been going on for over 100 years) and movies. Also, Mama is making a lasagna. Thankfully, there is a stockpile of Fancy Feast and Temptations.

Annie

2012 was a blessed year and we're thankful to be going into 2013.

We're also thankful for you, our friends.
XXXOOO,
Lucy
