Cats on Tuesday: Lap of Luxury

A new hotel will be opening later this month in Ft. Worth, Texas.  It will feature custom upholstered beds, chenille and satin blankets and 18-inch flat-screen TVs. If you're a human and you're interested, sorry. This hotel will be exclusively for dogs and cats.

Now, I thought I was knew what luxury was.  I get sun puddles all morning, my soft pink blanket in the afternoon, yummy foodies and fur brushings.  These pets get facials (I saw a picture of a dog with a blueberry facial and it looked like he was trying to lick it off), turn-down service every night (Mama, you now need to turn down my pink blankie) and suites that overlook an atrium, where robotic squirrels are the floor show (I bet real squirrels taste better).  The starting price is $65 a night and goes up to $200.  They also have a boutique where they sell Swarovski-crystal collars and $400 pink argyle cashmere dog sweaters.  For $20, your dog can have a 30-minute swim in the dog-bone shaped pool.

You know what? When I think of the homeless animals out there and my days in the shelter, I feel pretty fortunate.  Being in a loving, forever home is much better than all the luxury in the world.
Please visit Gattina, her kitties and kitties around the world at Cats on Tuesday.

  2. Lucy, bet mom's love and devotion are much, much more luxurious than the most expensive luxury hotel!

  6. You are so right Lucy. It is much better to be in a loving home than to go for that luxury. Home is where the heart is. Hey, you know you look as sexy as one of the Rockettes :) Have a great day :)

  8. Dear Lucy,

Money may buy comfort but it cannot buy love and true devotion. I too would not trade places since the family I have been with for seventeen years has been good to me.

  9. I wonder if the dogs and cats really appreciate those "luxuries"! It sounds like they're just appealing to the beans that live with them. The gang is happy with the luxuries they get here, including nice high places to climb to.

  10. Buddy and I both agree with you Lucy! Seems like the money used to build that hotel for pets would have helped alot of shelters....but I am gonna see if my mom will give me a peanut butter facial...I love peanut butter!

  11. Are you serious? $65 to $200 per night? That kind of money would help a lot of homeless, abandoned, abused animals. $400 sweaters? People who can and will spend that kind of money on a dog sweater need to have their priorities examined, IMO.

Good heavens, I don't even have $400 in a savings account, unfortunately. I have a hard time grasping this kind of waste.

  12. I'm back and still following you. As per my latest blog post, I'm letting everyone that's in my following list know I still have them.
I have to agree with Kea. With that kind of money, Nimbus' vet expenses would be up to date!

  13. That's a shame ! if people have too much money they should give it to animal shelters ! My cats don't care about a swarowski collar (anyway they don't like collars at all) or robot mice or squirrels. In short they would hate a hotel anyway, the best place is always a loving home and sleeping with a snoring human and wake them up at 5 for breakfast !

  14. You are so right Lucy. We feel really lucky to have a roof over our heads and food. We love our human and wouldn't have it any different. We even have the assistant to turn down our beds. LOL
    Have a great day.

  15. Lucy, we agree! People should make a donation to spay and neuter instead. We like the finer things, but a $400 collar would feed a lot of homeless animals!

  16. My friend in Fort Worth, Texas boards her dog in a luxury hotel for pets. You pay extra for a window few but since he's a Japanese Chin and only weighs 5 pounds a window doesn't do him any good. He's not tall enouch to see out. He does, however, have a TV.

  17. Wow! We think we rather stay home with mama. She can do just about all the things that hotel does. Our mama agrees that money could be spent in a better way. Our mama does go a little crazy though dressing those darn chihuahuas. She always donates a few dollars though for the homeless everytime she buys at Pet Smart.

  18. Facials sound ridiculous, but the rest should be purrfect.

  20. Hmmm...I was thinking (and yes, it did hurt a little), but if that hotel is ONLY for dogs and cats then that means if I stayed there I wouldn't be able to sleep cuddled up to my Mom. I LIKE SLEEPING CUDDLED UP TO MOM!! I don't want to stay in a hotel or anywhere else where I can't have my Mom and even if we have to sleep in a car or in a tent or something, I'd rather sleep next to Mom than on chenille sheets. You are totally, totally right Lovely Lucy, if those Moms and Dads have so much money that they pay for sillinesses like that, they should give it to kitties and doggies who have no food and no where to sleep and no one to love them. That would be a good way to spend their money!! A Swarovski collar can only be seen by other cats/dogs so I wouldn't want one because I wouldn't be able to see it anyway (and it would be heavy!!). I like the sparkle of another cat's eyes much better than that of a crystal collar. You Lucy, for instance, your eyes sparkle like diamonds!! Purrs, Lautrec
