Thanks and the D-Word

Dear friends, we would like to thank you for all your support and kindness about Bucky. It has meant so much to Mama.  We have missed everyone.

Mama says she has now set me in her sights. She has no distractions and says it's time for me to lose some weight. She is cruelly posting all my "fat" pictures today.
She is trying to feed me more canned food and less dry but notices that as much as I love the canned, it seems that I don't feel satisfied until I've had my crunchies.

If you have any suggestions, Mama would love to read them. If you have any suggestions on how I can beat this diet racket, I would love to read them!
I'm 14 years old, and Mama wants to keep me happy and healthy as long as possible.
I wish everyone a very happy weekend!

  1. Hi Lucy and Vicki, welcome back!

But Lucy, don't you love that belly rub??? We do not use the D-word here. I give Twylah half a can of wet food and the rest are some small portions of the dry food for the day. But she gets a treat, a doll up of yogurt, any flavor.

And don't you love to drink water from the tap? Oh and this fun, ha?

Enjoy your weekend, as we leave our kitty all day while doing photo shoots.

  2. Oh Lucy!!! LOVE these pictures, especially the 2nd one. We never noticed you were a bit on the plump side before, it must just be the photos.

  3. Hi Lucy,
It's nice to see you again, I missed you.
Lilly my older kitty sister eats more than Molly who is younger but Lilly is quite thin and Molly is a bit of a tub. They get crunchies during the day and a little canned food at supper time. Lilly also like a little milk now and then. My Mom has been trying to get Molly to loose some weight but has not had much luck.
I think you look very snuggly.
    Luv, Lucy (Woof!)

  4. Lucy, I'm so glad you're back, I've missed you a lot.

Obesity is a problem in humans as well as cats. I have a cat and dog, as well as myself trying to lose weight and it's very hard.

Your mom needs to realize it all rests on her to correct this ugly problem. You can't eat what she doesn't give you, so relax free of guilt, and see how well she does.

  7. Welcome back Lucy and your Mama! Hmmm....my mom has "put" me on that darn "d" thingy, too. I weighed 29 pounds when I went to the vet's last month and she was nice about it but said "maybe that its getting nicer and you can get more walks in...". Well, my mom immediately brought me home and told my dad to stop giving me snacks. She said she knows when we watch tv at night that we are both snacking. So its my dad's fault now. Anyhow, your photos were cute. Hope you can convince your Mama that maybe half dry and half wet food might work. Me, I only eat dry and its a prescription food, something to do with my kidneys. But I know our parents want us to be around for a long, long time so maybe you and I could do this "d" thing together!

  9. Welcome back!

Derry is a kibble-head and it's very hard to get him to eat canned. He has to be REALLY hungry before he'll touch it, any brand.

Both boys get 1/16 cup kibble two or three times a day, depending on whether it's a work week or a weekend (because I'm usually home early afternoon on the weekends), and get canned twice during the week, three times on the weekend too. I really cut back on the dry, because Derry's chubby. And of course because dry is dehydrating, not good for them, especially neutered boys with their narrow urethras and propensity toward blockages.

You'll just have to find what works for Lucy. I would say don't obsess about it and stick to your guns, no matter how much she begs or sasses you or what have you. LOL. However much dry you are feeding, perhaps offer it a few times a day, maybe 3 or 4 if you can (split it up, I mean)--it might help her to not feel deprived. If she likes freeze-dried chicken or beef treats, that might be good for added protein, to help fill her up.

    Good luck!

  11. Glad you is back! You know the camera adds 10 pounds so rilly, you is not fat at all. In fact, based on those kalkulashuns, you should has more noms. My mom can put a dog on a diet and the fat melts off (all of us dogs is lean and mean) but when it comes to kittehs, furget it! We find it very hard to regulate with kittehs and kittehs is so purrsistent when they want more noms! Even our feral kittehs wot we cannot touch come a hollerin' at the kitchun door when they is out of noms. And they does not stop until mom drops everything and brings them noms.

  12. Oh Lucy! Welcome back! We don't think you are f-a-t...we think there's just more of you to love! Haha!

Our mom is always concerned about us gaining weight. She feeds us 1/2 of a 3 oz can or 1/4 of a 5 oz can of food, twice a day. We also love our crunchies and we get about 1/3 a cup each split with each of our canned meals. We also get spoiled with a few treats but mom always is careful not to give us too many. RATS!

Another thing your mom could try is a treat ball. You can find them at petstores like PetSmart or Petco. They are round balls with a hole in them that you can fill with your crunchies. It forces you to knock the ball around a little to get the crunchies out to eat them...so you have to expend a little energy to eat! Our mom also took a plain plastic bottle, the kind that water comes in, and cut a few small holes in it and then put some crunchies in it. Once again, you gotta work a little to get the crunchies out. Same concept as the treat ball. Wally doesn't bother with these things but I sure love to play with the ball and bottle to get the crunchies out!

  13. Mama said hi to you and your mama. Me, your manly Peanut say your plumpness is delightful!! I luvs that pudgy tummy. Mine is just like yours. We make such a cute couple don't we?

I likes my fancy feast, but I always have to have my dry too. I weigh between 23 and 24 lbs, the last time mama weighed me. Mama said I need to slim down, whatever that means.
    Hugs and furry kisses
    from Peanut.

Hi Vicki, I am glad to see you back. We have missed you a lot. I don't know what to tell you about ways to help our cats take off weight. The vet always tells me a formula for how many calories they need, but it's hard. Pearlene is on a strict diet. I feel she is always hungry and even gotten a little food aggressive which is new for her. Peanut gets one fancy feast in the morning and early evening or late afternoon about a third of a cup dry food for senior cats, sometimes I get the diet kind which he eats but doesn't like as much. Never any treats, because him or Marshmellow won't have anything to do with them. They wont have anything to do with human food either.
    Good luck.

  15. Lucy & Vicki, please you're back! I'm sure you are all still missing Bucky.
Lucy, I would never have thought you were 14!
The 'Weight thing', maybe it's just the angle of the camera! You definitely have the Wow factor with the Pink Tutu! Take care & a Big Hug!

  16. It's hard to lose weight, but I know that your Mommy is just trying to keep you healthy. Maybe you could get the crunchies as treats?

  17. Hi Lucy! I saw your comment and wanted to let you know that the measurements we gave you is what each of us gets...so that's 1/2 of a 3oz can or 1/4 of a 5oz can twice a day for each of us. Same goes with the crunchies...we get about 1/3 cup of crunchies each split between both meals. Now if you decide to get a treat ball, you'd put some of your crunchies in there.

    I hope that helps!

  19. You're not fat...you're fluffy!

Mom tried to pull that stuff with me not too long ago. I'm afraid, though, that I've put on more weight than either of us realizes. She says she's gonna take me to the vet soon to weigh me. *shudders*
