  12. That's true mousie love!

Lucy, we need an advice of you. You have many years of experience with humans and ours seems to be feeling very down yesterday and today. You see, on Tuesday mom got a phone call that a school friend had died and the ceremony was to be held the next day. She must have been a bit distracted because of this news, because when she got up from bed on Wednesday the door of our appartement stood open and we were gone. The appartement was empty. She must have closed the door badly when she got something in late at night on Tuesday. We don't know where the problem is as we slipped through the door to our garden when at 6:00am a neighbour opened it to get his bike. Okay, it was a bit cold outside but nothing happened, we had fun and came when she called us (well Siena did, she had to catch Chilli). But mom feels so bad.
The ceremony yesterday was beautiful, but she learned that the friend she didn't see in many, many years had suffered a lot. It was so sad to think of the young, intelligent, funny guy at school and what he had done with his life.
When she got home she felt wasted and then the culmination happened: Said neighbour rang at her door and proceeded to shout at her. She figured out that she had accidentally thrown away two plants he collected as seeds in Tanzania. He had placed the pots between all her pots outside (where noone except her has plants) and she thought it was something someone didn't want anymore. Two neighbours occasionally give her their old stuff and she rescues it. Well, it wasn't the case this time, but the neighbour didn't say something about the pots, nor did he put a little paper on the pots or something similiar. We say that if you are going to place two very cherished, rare and emotionally valuable plants outside you should mark them. But anyway, we heard everything, this guy seems to be angry at mom for quite some time. We think he's a bit crazy, because he was saying really strange stuff, accusing her and being generally aggressive. Mom excused herself, explained that it was a bad misunderstanding and asked if she could do anything to substitute the loss, but he would not have anything to do with it. Mom is afraid of the neighbour now because he seem to have accumulated so much anger, she fears he's going to harm us. When he went yesterday she asked him if he had noticed her door open when he left in the morning. He said no. Then she asked about us. He said we were in the hallway. She asked if we slipped outside when he went for his bike and he said he didn't care. What a strange guy, don't you think? We think he's completely capable of understanding that something is wrong when we're in the hallway at 6:00 am, and mom would have knocked on our door to ask. It came clear during his sermon that he coleccted some sort of anger on our mom during the years. He was always very grumpy and didn't greet in the hallway, but he never ever said something to her. Is she supposed to read his mind? Do you know what we can do to calm our mom? She has leaky eyes and seems to feel so bad. She says she doesn't want to see this neighbour again. We're sorry to bother you with this, but we really don't know what to do.
    Siena & Chilli
